DIRECTV ads I'd like to see

Sweet Monkey Pie has gotten a little sports-heavy, but this being March — and me being a huge basketball fan — it’s a hard habit to break. And since the wife and kid were visiting family this weekend, I had the honor and privilege to watch approximately 320 hours of basketball since Thursday afternoon. Rather than rehash the NCAA tourney, let’s talk about something non-basketball-related: those new-ish DIRECTV ads.

Winning advice for filling out those NCAA brackets

The brackets are out. The matchups are set. It’s officially March Madness. Between an ACC championship for my Tar Heels and the realization that next Saturday’s games will be on St. Patrick’s Day, I’m giddy like a school girl (don’t tell R. Kelly).

Why I hate Dook (hint: it’s not because they’re successful)

I tell ya… as a UNC alum and a Dook hater, this has been a pretty interesting week. My open letter to Gerald Henderson was one of the most-read entries in Sweet Monkey Pie history. Coach K is taking flak from sportswriters around the country for saying that the real victim in Sunday’s assault was Gerald Henderson, his player and the offending party. People are digging up an interesting trend in unsportsmanlike conduct from Dookies over the years. And, once again, people are questioning the widely-held assertion that Coach K is the de facto (but self-proclaimed) quintessential leader of young men. Read more…

Hey Gerald,

I know this is a tough night for ya. You know, any game you lose to a hated rival is pretty tough and all. Trust me. I feel your pain, and not in a smarmy, Bill Clinton way. As a UNC alum, I die a little inside whenever the Dookies take one from us. But, too bad you left your fans and your school without any dignity or pride following this “L.” Read more…
