Welcome back, kids. This weekend, like most Americans, I watched a lot of TV. A LOT of TV. And while viewing several dozen football games, I noticed a disturbing trend in TV commercials. This year, Santa is inadequate.
** NOTE: leave it to Google to ruin a good time. They’ve apparently fixed this bug. It happened Saturday and Sunday… I posted this on Sunday night. It was fixed by Monday morning.***
We’ve all heard the phrase “middle of nowhere” in connection to a rural, out-of-the-way locale. A place so remote that you can’t recall how you got there. Kinda like my hometown (Rose Hill, NC — pop. 1312).
On Friday, I was on my way to a meeting in Chapel Hill. As I parked the car and started to stroll through campus – the trees ablaze in golds, oranges and reds – I thought to myself, Wow, I should call my old college pal Matt (aka, Nipsey) and make him jealous. It’s a ploy I used all the time when he was in San Diego, and then Miami. He lived in near-paradise most of the time, but I was 20 minutes away from our beloved alma mater. Read more…
After watching several dozen hours of election coverage in the past week or so, I gotta admit… the experience left me a little punchy. The Democratic party showed something resembling cohesion and regained control of Congress. Later, I thought I heard Rush Limbaugh say he was “liberated” by the results of the 2006 Democratic landslide. Then, I saw Wake Forest beat Florida State 30-0 in Tallahassee. If I had done acid as a teen, I’d chalk it up to a flashback.
