Earlier tonight, I watched a GREAT women’s basketball game. UNC and Duke slugged it out at Cameron Indoor Stadium, with UNC nabbing a 74-70 win. Both teams went in undefeated. Carolina came out as the only unblemished team in the nation. Read more…
I’m not sure what my point is with this entry. I’m pretty tired (see below), but I thought that writing would help relax me. We’ll see. So, I got the ol’ laptop out when I sat down to watch my Tar Heels take on the new ACC member, Boston College. I’m not keeping a running diary, mostly because, well, I’m tired. Congrats to the Seahawks, Panthers, Broncos and the Steelers for getting to the conference championships. After a tepid start to the playoffs, it would be hard to say that yesterday was anything but thrilling. OK, I was actually at Carmax buying a new ride, but the highlights looked stupendous. The recap of the Steelers game almost stopped my heart… had I watched it live, I’m not sure what would have happened. And I’m a frustrated Cowboys fan. Read more…

In the annals of popular music (huh huh, I said annals), one of the most interesting and disturbing trends was the advent — and then explosion — of the power ballad. By the late 80s, every metal/hair band worth its weight in mascara and White Rain was cranking out a power ballad on each and every album. It was truly bizarre. These big-haired chord-crunchers would suddenly be belting out lyrics that would make Paul Anka blush. And the public ate it up. Read more…
